The Data Revolution in Castle-Building
September 25th, 2020 by G.
A castle builder decided to get really analytical.
“Statistics show,” he said, “that 95% of the part of the castle defenders use in combat is the top 5 feet. But the lower parts of the castle are the great majority of the time and the expense of building.”
He mused.
“Think of how much more effective I can build if I skip straight to the only useful part instead of being blinkered by hidebound traditionalism. I will call it The Castle in the Air ™!”
Moral: Numbers are no substitute for wisdom.

This reminds me of the brain-drain that is happening as Boomers retire.
(1947 was the peak in the US, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_boom
and they started retiring in 2012, +65 years. The plateau was 1952-1957, and then it dropped precipitously. 1957 + 65 = 2022, so that’s when it will be painfully obvious to those whose eyes are open.
A couple years ago, an associate brought this to my attention, and that it is keeping corporate planners and HR execs up at night. The scenario of the “Idiocracy” movie is playing out.
Less educated folks from less-developed countries are not sufficient — we need more than warm bodies to replace the American-educated Boomer generation at the managerial and corporate-officer level. There are notable exceptions of course, but generally, immigrants from Central/South America, Africa, and even college grads from India, have not been able to sufficiently fill the vacuum created by retiring Boomer talent and experience.
And as the upper echelon of immigrants are still mainly educated/trained in the west, they still carry the self-destructive PC indoctrination. Hence, they have the credentials of talent, without the actual talent of those they replace at the managerial and upper corporate levels.

Haha ha . . . ha. Ouch. Yep, that seems painfully accurate to way too many situations in the world today.
@ Books,
Sadly true.

The addition of the “TM” is what really MAKES this story.
