Parallels of Rome to the U.S. and modern West.
Victor Davis Hanson has a scary article on the parallels of the Modern West (mainly the US, but also Western Europe) to the novel The Satyricon, by Gaius Petronius. It’s not the fictional aspects that are similar, but the actual history. The novel was a satirical observation of the author’s culture and society. What makes it scary is that the similarities, on the Roman side, are acknowledged to be what led to Rome’s downfall. (more…)
