Lodge Cast Iron Deals at Amazon.

June 29th, 2018 by Bookslinger

Attention cooks, campers, and outdoorsy people: Amazon seems to be having deals on Lodge brand (American made) cast iron cookware, rotating between various models.

Current Lodge deal, as of June 29, 2018, is a 5 qt combo dutch oven (a pot, essentially) with a lid that doubles as a skillet, both with short handles, model L8DD3, $30.49 including shipping, plus tax if any, $64 MSRP. I forget what Amazon’s normal price is. (more…)

True Blue Mormon Podcast, Episode 3.

June 26th, 2018 by MC

In the first part of Episode 3, Will and MC discuss President Oaks’ talk at the “Be One” celebration, including a discussion at 15:22 of how Satan’s proposed plan to “destroy the agency of man” was supposed to work (not the standard view!).

In the second part, which starts at 34:34, we discuss President Nelson’s talk at the recent Devotional for Youth. At 42:00, we get into just how much credit MC deserves for the President Nelson’s coinage of the phrase “Youth Battalion,” and at 52:30 Will talks about the significance of President Nelson’s invocation of the “Gathering of Israel.”

Thanks for listening!

[Apologies for the sound quality on MC’s end; we are still doing trial and error on recording options, but we will figure it out soon!]

What other gov’t departments/agencies are partisan?

June 16th, 2018 by Bookslinger

If the paragon of virtue, the Dept of Justice/FBI, is partisan, what other departments and their agencies are?  Is there any reason not to suppose they all are?

In Episode 2 of the True Blue Mormon Podcast, we discuss the recent announcement that the LDS Church is parting ways with the BSA, and Will lords his Eagle Scout status over Jesse and me. Introducing the True Blue Mormon Podcast

June 14th, 2018 by MC

Last month, in the comments to this post, I mentioned that I was working on what I thought was an exciting project for right wing Mormons. Without further ado, I present to you the “True Blue Mormon Podcast.” I’ve embedded the first episode here, where we discuss the origin of the podcast name, and the need for a podcast of this kind. I hope you agree after listening that we fill a niche on the Mormon right (or maybe even a gaping chasm).

Episode 2 will be uploaded in the next day or so, and Episode 3 is currently in post-production.

If you have any suggestions about other media platforms where we ought to be posting these, we’re all ears. You can also follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TrueBlueMormon

Enjoy!

Missing dialogue from the Book of Mormon

June 04th, 2018 by Bookslinger

Whenever I read something containing a description of events or dialogue, I create a mental movie. In the case of scripture, I also automatically translate text of spoken words into modern common language.

“Behold, I say unto you…” becomes “Lookit, I’m tellin’ ya…”

I also fill in the gaps with the obvious rejoinders. My mental movie has Laman saying, “Nephi, you and dad aren’t Moses, and this ain’t the  Exodus.”

Ammon, the consummate schmoozer, probably said something along the lines of “Hey, my dad’s a king too. King Mosiah. Have you heard of him?”

Surely, Lamoni, at some point asked Ammon, “You didn’t come here to just to take care of sheep, didja?”

What other fill-ins or translations does your mental movie of the Book of Mormon have?
