Portrait of a Sunday School

August 15th, 2022 by G.

On the sweetness of Mormon life.

Sitting in the middle of the pews for Sunday school in the chapel.  I am looking at all the Saints on the side benches, looking at the woman behind me as she talks in answer to a question, each person with his or her own distinct posture, face, wrinkles.  Some looking at the speaker, some looking down at scriptures, one resting his head on the bench in front, one staring straight ahead.  The big white expanse of the wall behind them. . .

I wish I were a Rembrandt to paint them.  Or a Norman Rockwell.

Or perhaps, Arnold Friberg.

Or William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

My personal interpretation of Section 130:9:

is that Urim&Thummims can see across time. Therefore, the sanctified Earth, as a Urim/Thummim that can view “lower order worlds,” would supposedly be able to see the Earth’s mortal past. Hence, CK inhabitants will, I suppose, be able to see stills and moving images of any time and place of Earth’s history that they choose.

If true, all those idyllic, iconic, poignant, momentous, whatever, moments and events of our past will be available for viewing/reviewing — like a photo album, or a video tape, or perhaps even like a 3D immersive virtual reality.

It’s not just internal subjective memories that are forever with us, I believe it will be objective viewing too.

I believe something like this, except that you are eternally present in every moment of your life

I can’t be the only one who wants to leave some moments behind.

Yep

Exaltation means being the soul who has the character, tried in a furnace, that can bear it. Partly because you know what through grace you were able to make of it.

If you would be as Christ you must like Christ be able to commune with all your life like he communed with all your life.

I increasingly think the atonement was basically just having a divine type communion experience in a mortal body
