Elvish Mood
December 14th, 2021 by G.
Sometimes when you are on the shore watching the waves roll in
Or on the Alpine granite feeling the wind of the world blow
An elvish mood comes over you
You feel joined to the scene
You feel no impatience
Your own troubles and faults are merged into the great beauty

So true! Perhaps that feeling (merging into the great beauty) is why Jesus sought solitude in the wilderness, to commune not only with God the Father, but with His own creation. I love to be out in nature and see the great beauty of creation.

“Be still, and know that I am God” is still great advice. But I wouldn’t want to be out in the howling snowstorm that’s currently happening outside my window. There are times and places for that sort of thing. Right now I’m feeling more hobbit-like, with a great desire for a good warm second supper and the opportunity to stay in for the night.

Sometimes one must wheel and turn, arms outstretched, to the great creation and Creator of all the vast grandness; and sometimes it is meet to shelter by the fire with a hot toddy or bowl of warm stew. Ecclesiastes (and The Byrds) confirm this. Elvish, is it? I am an Elf.

On the other hand, today’s sky was beautifully clear – you could see for miles; the snow-capped mountains stood out against the aquamarine blue – and everything was incredibly bright as the snow reflected back the sun. I didn’t want to go inside. Gosh, weather is fun.
