General Conference Epilogue
My daughter did something neat this conference. She wrote down all the things she laughed at and all the good stories.
There were some good stories and some deeply moving ones, like Sister Aburto and Elder Palmer’s experiences with their siblings dying.
I wasn’t trying to write any type of note in particular, but as usual I seem to have gone for memorable phrases and pithy aphorisms
Uchtdorf – It is God who makes us great.
Jones – Eternity is the wrong thing to be wrong about.
? – Home church is family power.
Eyring – Go to the temple sufficiently pure.
Holland – The principles of righteousness lead to the powers of righteousness.
Holland – Pledge total loyalty in word and deed to the Lamb of God.
? – Pray, Pray, Pray.
Neilsen – God sees us as the builders of great kingdoms.
Soares – the most immeasurable act
Aburto – No mourning would mean no love.
Palmer – “I will be baptized today or never.”
Wong — We cannot change all that is coming. But we can change how we prepare for what is coming.
President Nelson – Without [loyalty] it is impossible to please God.
President Nelson – Lazy learners and lax disciples.
Dyches – Light leads to light.

Here are a few of mine:
Pres. Nelson – Remove the old debris in our lives.
Uchtdorf – The Lord’s teachings are timeless
Sis. Jones – Help our children get far enough into the gospel
Stevenson – Kindness is a fundamental principle of the healing gospel.
Gong – The Church is our Inn
Eyring – Be ready and worthy for the increased temple experiences that are coming to us.
Holland – Practice peace in the midst of conflict.
Becerra – Seek out the “pobrecitos.” (I grew up knowing that word!)
Renlund – Don’t become bitter, become better!
Teixeira – the table of a joyful life
Wong – The gospel shouldn’t be part of our life, our life should be part of the Gospel; mortality is just a part of our life.
Pres. Nelson – Every blessing begins with faith.
Dyches – Darkness must always surrender to even the faintest light.
Christofferson – bound to Him we can overcome all things.
Conference was again a magnificent feast! (Which makes it difficult to return to the twinkie fest we are often offered in our local unit.)

Ooh! I wanna play too!
Joy D. Jones: Prepare for the fray.
Gerrit W. Gong: Waiting on the Lord is a holy position.
Dale G. Renlund: When faced with unfairness, we can turn away from God or toward Him.
Russell M. Nelson: Quiet time is sacred time.
Faith enables the unlikely to accomplish the impossible.
Jose Teixeira: Knowing who you are changes what you feel and what you do.
Taniela B. Wakolo: Chastening is ‘spiritual surgery’.
Ronald A. Rasband: Magnitude does not proscribe a miracle.
Yeah, I needed this conference. Now it’s time to go forth and study it.

GC was followed the next Sunday by a special multi-stake conference in Central Indiana.
The Indianapolis North stake, Indianapolis West stake, and the Lafayette stake did some re-arranging/ward-swapping, created a new ward, and created the Fishers Indiana stake.
Fishers stake has six wards. General population growth is fast in this area, so I expect future ward creation here.
Indy North now has 7 wards. Again, general population growth is fast.
Indy West stake now has 7 wards and 3 branches (including a multi-stake Spanish branch and a multi-stake YSA branch.)
Lafayette Stake now has 6 wards and 2 branches (including a YSA branch.)

I think two things are going on. Units (wards and stakes) are being made smaller to align better with Dunbar’s number. This also pre-positions units for faster growth in the near to mid-term future, and prepares more leaders now to better absorb future growth.
