Proof that Coke is bad for you
A 31-year-old woman died from heart failure due to drinking Coca-Cola says a coroner in New Zealand. However it took six to ten liters a day to do her in. Ten liters of Coke provides 970 mg of caffeine, twice the level of daily consumption that is considered toxic. Also 1 kg of sugar, though the deceased was of normal weight, apparently due to not eating or drinking anything other than Coke. So Coke will kill you if you drink two gallons a day and use it as your only form of nourishment. If the mother of eight and wife of none hadn’t consumed so much Coke, she could have lived another decade or two continuing to smoke thirty cigarettes a day.
“The fact she had her teeth extracted several years before her death because of what her family believed was Coke-induced tooth decay, and the fact that one or more of her children were born without enamel on their teeth, should have been treated by her, and by her family, as a warning.” And let that be a warning to you as well, dear readers.

I prefer not to drink ten liters a day of Coca-Cola.

I ran the numbers, 32 to 34 grams of caffeine per 12 fl oz (can), and 100 calories per 8 fl oz (for 2 liter plastic bottles) , so the 970 mg caffeine figure, and 1kg sugar figure add up. Sugar, or any carb, is 4 calories per gram, so 1kg, or 1,000 grams is 4,000 calories.
As it is often said, there is always more to the story. At 4000 calories per day she should have been obese. So I’m thinking at least part of her intake was Diet Coke, not the sugared variety.
If Coca Cola was her only “food”, then malnutrition (depletion of essential vitamins and minerals) was more likely to be the major factor, rather than the toxicity of caffeine.
If she drank 10 liters/day, that also meant she was excreting 10 liters/day too. That’s enough to flush electrolytes from the body, and overwork the kidneys. One article I found mentioned that the coroner said she had hypokalemia, dangerously low potassium. If left untreated, hypokalemia causes heart problems.
For those who are addicted to caffeine, may I recommend caffeine tablets, available at grocery and drug stores. Generic brands are $.10 per 200 mg tablet. Take no more than one every four hours, and a maximum of two per day.

And for us junkies, what form of heroin would you recommend?

Age: Ha ha! But since you asked, methadone. See your local clinic.
Actually, switching from Diet Coke to tablets help me cut back from 500 mg/day to 200 to 300. I break the tablets into quarter pieces, and take smaller doses. It seems to even out the spikes.
