On the Road Beyond Switzerland

June 06th, 2011 by John Mansfield

If you encounter a Swiss on the road this month, and you’re not driving in Switzerland, please exercise appropriate caution.

Czechoslovakia:
“The man, a 33-year-old from Lucerne, was arrested after an 80 kilometre police chase. Police only succeeded in stopping him when his car ran out of petrol. [. . ] The paper said he had a mix of stimulants and other drugs in his blood, which likely caused him to be confused and dizzy when he drove his car onto the wrong lane. No one was seriously injured in the five accidents he caused along the highway, the paper said.” (link)

Australia:
“Dominic Emmenegger, from Zurich, said he found himself at the start of 3.1 km Burnely Tunnel, put his head down, put on AC/DC on his earphones and set to get through as fast as he could during the morning rush hour. A video posted on the Internet shows him skateboarding next to cars and trucks. The act of bravado forced many drivers to swerve and stop to avoid colliding with Emmenegger, who fell once during the crazy ride. He ended up in police custody with only minor injuries and was briefly treated at a local hospital.” (link)

Special domestic, non-roadway bonus:
“A gang of thieves is suspected to have targeted lambs in Canton Obwalden.” (link)
