Young Mr. Frog went a’courtin’ but in that region and at that time there were no eligible young misses in the Animal Kingdom who were interested in Mr. Frog. In frustration he complained to an elder of his kind.
“Well,” the elder said, “have you tried dressing up in a tux, renting a church, and hiring a wedding caterer?”
“What good would that do?” the young frog said in exasperation.
“It sounds to me like you aren’t even trying,” his elder scoffed.

(One of) the problems I currently face in dating is that I would like to meet a moderately assertive, socially capable man. You know, someone who would actually be willing to ask a woman on a date to get to know each other, without making said first date immediately into a marriage interview or a one night stand.
But my fellow women have made asking someone out into such a minefield that most men won’t even try! Truly a conundrum.

One socially destructive cycle is the pressure to keep her engaged, the worry that one joke will fall flat and she’ll think “oh, there’s no spark” and send an HR text breaking up with you after the first date; part of this is the idea that there would have been a script that if followed perfectly would have unlocked a relationship, rather than that being the fault of the deep anxiety all young women of this age seem to live in, something that definitely isn’t helped by the main way to meet people being swipe apps.
My older brother went to Ricks College and had multiple dates every weekend and girlfriends for a week or two and got plenty of practice being entertaining, before he got married late at 26. I don’t think that environment exists at any church school anymore.
