Woodpecker, Ph.D.

Aha! he said, alighting.  Here is what appears to be wood.  As I have studied ash, beach, elm, oak, pine, and fir, and many other varieties of wood, I can be expected to accurately identify wood even when in an unusual form that would deceive the layman.  And here by this wood am I, viz, a woodpecker with credentials in impactology.  I shall then surely proceed to encounter, acquire, and consume insects in this wood.
