What is Truth

A  knowledge of truth is essential to salvation.  What is truth?  Let’s check D&C 93, starting around verse 24.

Our spirits are apparently  made of truth.  So is God.  Not, it appears, just as a metaphor.

Ye were also in the beginning with the Father; that which is Spirit, even the Spirit of truth;

. . . . I am the Spirit of truth
. . . . Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made…

Fact/knowledge alone is not truth unless it is comprehensive.  You need to know the context (“thingS as they are”) and, importantly, the trajectory (“and as they were, and as they are to come.”)

And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;

Truth is purpose-oriented.  No truth without, essentially, decision-making and capacity to act.

All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.

Thus spirit (truth) has to be wedded to elements.

For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;

For those with incomplete access to context and trajectory and even just facts, which is you and me and everyone, the only solution is continual progress.

And no man receiveth a fulness unless he keepeth his commandments.

28 He that keepeth his commandments receiveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.

So repentance is a truth-seeking device.

So Christ, who in his Atonement comprehended (became, brought into himself) all things, is also the only one who comprehends (understands) all things.  Given the connection between truth and element, this is probably not even a little bit a coincidence.

For us mortals, context and focus pull against each other.  Context can distract from focus and vice versa.
