Kirk Assassinated
Father Time in his wisdom made me too old to be interested in Charlie Kirk. I had heard of him, that’s it. But some of my kids I found out are fans and my daughters in Utah County had gotten out of work/class and were on their way to his event at UVU yesterday when we got the news. Perhaps for that reason, it has affected me a lot more than I would have thought.

This may turn into a memory only, epoch-making only for his family and friends. But it feels like it may be epochal for all of us. I pray not, but something in my gut says, as I said in very different context years ago, we have crossed the Continental Divide.

I had not heard of him until earlier in this week when there was an article at the Deseret News site about his organization. It described his Turning Point employees: “Chatting with Kirk between meetings, the team of 20-somethings — half of them members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kirk said — reclined before large monitors, crafting their boss’s next viral clip.”

My initial reaction was, of course, anger, but also a strong feeling we are being manipulated. They want a reaction.
How do we win? Short-term to shortish-medium term, I am not so sure about that. We are in ascendence at the moment, true. But Revelations warns that the Saints will be overcome, as also Daniel. And what has Pres Nelson repeatedly emphasized? Peacemaking. Note, how this is in contrast to Pres Benson emphasizing our need to stand for freedom. Not that one is right and the other wrong. But what is most important for our time and what does Christ command us now. Yes, we need to boldly stand for truth, but we can not do the Lord’s work, without people feeling the Lord’s spirit.
In a very real sense, the actual battle is between the Spirit of the Lord, and the Spirit of the Devil, even moreso than the policies and laws enacted.
The only safety is standing in holy places, doing the Lord’s work. Our physical safety is no where guaranteed, but we have the Lord’s guidance and blessings, if we are where the Lord wants us.
After the Bronze Age Collapse, the Greeks had what they called The Age of Heroes. Buckle up. From here on out, it is High Adventure.

Our kids are being corrupted at so fundementally deep a level, and then put psychotropic drugs, and then asked to find meaning in a society that’s irreparably broken.
I feel for the family on both sides. I imagine and hope this kid goes through moments of profound regret.
The margin will get worse.

It occurred to me that I have witnessed a scriptoral event.
A man appears, preaching repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. He is murdered for it.
Have you ever seen this in your life? I had not. But now I have.
