The Origin Story

April 22nd, 2024 by G.

One of my favorite sorts of talks in Church is the origin story.

This one was a doozy.

The speaker’s parents had met working at the airport in LAX.   He winked at her, she wanted to wink back but didn’t know how so she turned side-on then closed both eyes.  Hilarity, as always, ensued.

They get married and end up at a powerplant in rural Utah where he had got a good job as a watchman.    She was inactive LDS, he wasn’t at all.

The powerplant guys were all returned missionaries.  Soon they decided to convert him.  When he got to one station on his rounds, the technician there would start in on  the first discussion  (this was in the era of memorized discussions).  When he left that location, the technician would radio ahead to the next station.  The tech there would pick up where the prior man left off.

Surprisingly, this did not work.  It made him mad.

But he loved his wife and despite all he liked and admired the guys at the plant, so 0ne day he asks the missionaries over himself.  They have a chat with him, then ask when they can come back for the remaining lessons.  He stares at them.  What do you mean?  I want them all tonight.

I read this blog very occasionally. I just wanted to say that I’m glad you’ve kept it going over the years. I’ve been around long enough to watch Times and Seasons go from faithful to not so faithful to back to faithful. What a ride the bloggernacle has been
