Poirot and

September 13th, 2023 by G.

I gather there is currently an Argentine firebrand politician, he hates leftists and such, who has a real chance of being elected to office.

Looking it up . . . His name is Milei and he’s running for President, which must be an office of real power in Argentina from the way the news articles talk about it.

Anyhow, last night I dreamed that in the late 40s Hercule Poirot saw the shape of the disaster to come in our civilization and fled to Argentina to set up a small cohort of people dedicated to preserving a remnant of the old civilization and eventually to fight back.  Over the years the group grew in strength and ability until they finally felt able to offer one of their own, Milei, for President of Argentina.

My dream then gave me the backstory.  Poirot fled New York City on a refugee ship bound for Argentina.  At one point an extremely narrow road appeared on the sea, no more than two feet across.  Poirot got his bicycle out of storage and peddled the rest of the way to Argentina.

There, after some unspecified cataclysm, Poirot fled into large caverns and spent some time.  Now a child for some reason, he was able to make mental contact with other child refugees.  After reassuring each other that they weren’t child-diddlers, and were in fact children themselves, they gathered together for mutual protection and survival under Poirot’s leadership.  They were the nucleus of the group that is now trying to win the Presidency of Argentina as the next step in fulfilling the deceased Poirot’s plan to liberate the world.

Your dreams are the most astonishing I’ve ever heard. And I’ve heard plenty, from our daughter, the writer, and our son, the filmmaker (who sadly is no longer with us). Perhaps dreams are the most vivid and imaginative in people who are storytellers. Mine so often have to do with stress and trauma, it’s nice to hear a good story!
