A New David, a Second Moses
One great thing about family is people who think differently than you but who are close enough to you that the line of their thought crosses yours often.
CS Lewis’ First Friend and Second Friend are types.
In our monthly interview I asked one of my girls what her latest inspiration was.
She said she’d been thinking about King Benjamin saying to take on you the name of Christ. She had also been thinking about how Christ had so many different names and titles. Maybe, she said, we were supposed to make our name one of Christ’s names.
That’s been on my mind since.
I brought it up with the rest this morning out on the early morning grass.
Oh, said the oldest, like how Christ is the new David, the second Moses?

There was a conference talk about that subject . . . two conferences ago, I think? The speaker said he had the impression during the sacrament to take one of Christ’s name-titles on himself that week and work on that specific attribute. What a fascinating topic to go down the rabbit hole with!

I just read Elder Jonathan S. Schmitt’s conference talk from October 2022 on this very subject! Taking on the names of Christ. He said, “My earnest desire is that you will come to know Jesus by His many names and that you will become like Him as you exemplify His divine attributes in your life.”
