Your Leader’s Words

This is another attempt to approach the gospel stories as something that were actually happening, not as Scripture.   I’ve tweaked some details to better capture the feel of it.

You are part of a small, tight-knit group that leads a movement.   You are a band of brothers.  But your leader is the best of all.  He is unbelievable, the things he can do and can pull off.  It is the honor of your life that you are part of his inner team.

The movement is taking off.  It’s been hard, but now there are crowds mobbing around the leader in the streets.

Then the word comes.  The secret police have taken him at night.  They hold a televised show trial.  He is executed on live TV.  They throw his body into the streets.

You and your guys shame each other, eventually, into trying to go get his body.

When you come to the body, he opens his eyes and winks.

He stands up.

He is glowing with light.

He tells you,  “all power is given to me in heaven and earth.”

He gives you his last order.

He says, “I will be with you always.”
