There is No Easy Mode, though there is a God Mode
President Nelson gave an aphorism Sunday morning that I would have remembered even if I didn’t write it down (I did write it down).
He said,
trying to find happiness where it cannot be found is exhausting!
I believe his aphorism meaningfully expands Nephi’s
wickedness never was happiness.
I wish people understood this truth better. I wish I understood this truth better.
Everyone wants the reward without the race, the prize without the price, the results without the risks. We want to have it all and settle for less. We want to be all we can be without becoming all we can be, we want to find ourselves without going looking, we want the cheat code for God Mode but without the Living God. Man, that is exhausting.

When I heard President Nelson say that I immediately thought of a piece of dieting advice I heard many years ago which seems to apply to many different aspects of life: “You can never get enough of what you don’t need, because what you don’t need will never satisfy you.”
Junk food, yes. But also crack cocaine, porn, social media posting and comparisons, excessive material belongings, etc, etc, you get the idea. Trying to find happiness in things we don’t need is a losing enterprise, a distraction…and exhausting.
