The Rest of the Story

Why do they keep lying? Just like with Nixon story.

The lie doesn’t even seem to have a point, lynching is bad either way.
I hate how much basic stuff I learned in school turned out to be badly incomplete to the point of propaganda.

This comment is not about the veracity of any of the OP’s issues, but is intended as a meta-discussion.
Things can be worse. Sometimes the-rest-of-the-story has yet another rest-of the-story.
Or as is said, there may be a debunk to the debunk. And then yet another level of debunk, as deep as you want to go.
And… lies don’t always go in the direction you might think – someone may lie to their own detriment to protect another – death-bed confessions may not necessarily be true.
As was cynically said in The Man who Shot Liberty Valence: “when the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” But the media is still selective when applying that rule.

What’s the Nixon story you’re referring to?

The conventional Watergate narrative leaves out a whole bunch of facts that while not exactly tending to exonerate Nixon do tend to inculpate the people who got rid of him

Thanks, G. That’s what I figured but wanted to be sure. I’ve yet to look much into Watergate, so I can’t say I know much beyond the popular notions about it. I have found that most of the popular narratives in US history are badly distorted. Joe McCarthy being a prime example I learned about recently.
