Motivating Motherhood
May 02nd, 2022 by G.
Which do you think is more motivating to a young mother, or a woman on the cusp of motherhood–
That 90% of mothering is showing up–getting married and having the kids and generally being around–everything else is gravy and probably only makes a difference at the margins?
Or that the mother’s labors makes a tremendous difference in the life of each child?
I find that I believe both and I’m not sure how to reconcile them.

I think a mother’s labors, or lack thereof, make a tremendous difference. I think choosing a good husband makes a huge difference. And finally, I think women need to understand that the paydays in motherhood are few and far between for many years (probably 18-20). But they are sweet, meaningful, and worthwhile when they come.

Not being a mother, or even a wife (yet), I can’t say for sure – but I am certainly heartened by the fact that my younger brother found a delightful woman who wants to have children, wants to stay home with them, and wants to have as many children as they possibly can. Somewhere, unicorns do exist, apparently.
