What I Like about the Latter Parts of Genesis
March 09th, 2022 by G.
A number of things, but maybe most of all the sense of the sacredness of places and peoples.
You meet a guy from the tribe of Whatsit and you remember the sacred story about how the Whatsits were founded by your great great great grandfather’s sister when she married this one guy and so on and so on.
You are out and about and you see a pile of stones, oh yes, that’s where Laban and Jacob made their deal.

Something I like are those who played roles, but none remember what their names were, so they are mentioned repeatedly without a name. Abraham’s servant who arranged a wife, Rebekah, for Isaac. The daughter of Shuah the Canaanite, Judah’s wife, mother of Er, Onan and Shelah. We can’t tell the story without them, and we aren’t going to just make up names for them and give them false identities, forgetting them worse than just forgetting their names.
