Two Conference Highlights
Here are my Conference top two.1. For background, Russell M. Nelson isn’t very simpatico with me. I didn’t much look forward to his talks before he became prophet and I still don’t. A lot of what he’s most excited about comes as a trial to me. That’s not a knock on him, its just a fact.
So I was not expecting my most powerful spiritual impressions from conference to be from him.
Take extraordinary measures.
Take time for the Lord daily.
When combined with the 1% improvement plan and the advice to Look down the road, I was given simple direction for doing great things.
Proclaim it abroad. You are the knights of the spiritual feudalism. The vikings have been looting the spiritual landscape unchecked. Have been. But now you are erecting extraordinary fortifications of the soul, such castles as the world has not seen, from which you sally. Beat the drums, counsel together, your family is going to war.
2. The story of Jans. He lives in an idyllic setting, gets an inexplicable command from the Holy Ghost to change out a light bulb, and peddling to the store for it, sees a toddler fall in a pond and pulls the toddler out. That combo of idyll, inspiration, and God being funny (instead of just telling Jans to go to the pond to save the kid) is peak JG. I love this God.

It felt like being back in a large auditorium with choirs behind them put the speakers and this listener in the right frame for something other than a cozy chat. That said, one of the highlights for me was a genuine last days talk prerecorded remotely for Saturday afternoon by Christoffel Golden. His topic, his words, his delivery, and his book-lined office all had a well-matched grandeur.

Yeah, I kind of feel like President Nelson is marshalling his forces before an all-out battle . . . Captain Moroni-style, by digging in deep with really good fortifications. Maybe that’s why so many temples have been announced?
