The Book of Mormon Story
September 08th, 2021 by G.
This is a must read thread.
the Book of Mormon has some fantastic quotes but is more notable imo for its narratives, which have been fertile ground for artists since its first printing. In this thread I'll present Book of Mormon art and summarize some of its stories. https://t.co/w5yIHBT4iD pic.twitter.com/HtbQpCwOJV

Why must-read? I think most readers of this blog already know the BoM narrative pretty well.

very flattered to be featured here, you know you guys are the best LDS blog right? I am also in the comments sometimes but under pseudonym so as not to break the carnival atmosphere.
also SPDI if you are spending a lot of time on twitter I’d be charmed if you’d spend some of it with me, feel free to DM me whoever you are there whenever

to add: the goal of the thread was to at least make people aware that the Book of Mormon is a story. It’s stronger as a story than as Scripture Mastery gotchas, in my experience, but it’s harder to quickly and pithily share those especially since they’re so rarely fables with easy morals. The best solution, since our BoM film industry is sadly in its infancy still, seemed to be sharing our fantastic art pieces, which draw interest and curiosity immediately. While the thread was active it seemed to be mostly shared by LDS accounts but was interacted with by many, many others, and I’m grateful to any of you that shared it.
also I wish our handout BoMs could be the Gold Plates version again, investigators would fight to have one

@ Jesse Lucas,
The more I study the scriptures, the more I realize that God works through true stories writ large. The Plan is the widest story in the universe, made up of infinite variations. Thanks for reminding us all of that. Also, I’d only seen maybe 1/2 of the art you featured previously, so thanks expanding my horizons, too.

Minerva Teichert is widely known as a Relief Society room painter who draws feminine red-lipped elfin figures, it’s a crime her war scenes aren’t more popular

It is worth noting, that the people who appeared to Pres Woodruff, who said they had laid the foundation of liberty, and who then asked why their temple work had not been done; other than the signers of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, the most common job was artist/author.
Thus, our art will inspire minds and hearts in unique and powerful ways.
The Psalms are some of the most quoted scripture by the Savior. Inspiration can come to us, whether as artist or as a simple faithful member, just as much as the Apostles.

What a great thread! I love the art. I haven’t seen some of those paintings before. Even some of the Minerva Teichert paintings, and I love her work. And I can never get enough Walter Rane paintings.
