The Weak Things

January 02nd, 2021 by G.

“The weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones,” D&C 1:19.

I once thought this prophecy was real inspiring.  I now think its a prophecy of bad times coming.  Because the weak don’t take on the strong, nor win, unless the strong have made an utter misery of the world and dragged everything including themselves down into destruction.

“The prophecies and promises … shall all be fulfilled,” D&C 1:37.

To add on to what you’re saying: the strong are all corrupted, and have therefore destroyed themselves. The weak pick up the pieces and rebuild – as they often have, in the wake of calamity.

The comforting thing is, He can make weak things strong.

That puts a new spin on the promise that we will become gods.

That is an interesting and good insight. During our home church discussion today, we listed out the “calamities” set forth in that section as well as promises. I pointed out this verse as one that could go in either category.

As the discussion developed, we noticed that “those who bear these tidings” will be given power to seal “the unbelieving and the unrighteous.” Others may have made the connection before, but I had not noticed that, especially in light of Peter’s account of Jesus’ ministry to those who were disobedient in the time of Noah and Joseph F Smith’s vision of the redemption of the dead, this is a fairly succinct summary of the work done in modern temples.
