My Heart is a Cloud

September 23rd, 2020 by G.

My daughter dreamed she heard a song on the radio. They were singing,
“I am a cloud and I’m blowing away. My heart is a cloud and I want it to stay.”
***
One of the sister missionaries in our ward dreamed recently that she was going to be sent to X town with X missionary (that she didn’t know, but had heard us talk about) as a trainer for other sister missionaries. She had the dream several times and told us about it. Two days ago, her Mission President called to send her to X town with X missionary as a trainer for other sister missionaries.
***
I dreamed that the hubbub in the marketplace slowly died and the crowd slowly parted. Over the heads of the crowd you could see five flags approaching. Eventually the crowd parted enough that you could see five crippled and injured men slowly carrying their flags forward to the king who was seated on his throne at the end of the market plaza. The backstory, which I knew in the way of dreams, was that months before the king had sent 5 regiments out to deal with invading orcs or some such. They had fought in running battle after running battle. As one flagbearer was killed they passed on to the next until this was all that was left–their last fight had been just the five of them using their flags as pikes. They were returning to report they had won. They had stopped at a stream outside the city to clean up as best they could and the senior one told them to “make a show, make a show. This is for all of them.”

In my dream, the king came down from his throne crying and threw off his crown and his robe.

A few nights ago, I dreamed that I was at an 18th century American feast. I’d won a seat, and there were very few other women, none dressed as simply as I; some of my fellow guests were surprised that I had table manners. The meal had many courses, every other one brought out by cheerful rival chefs.
Though I was simply dressed, I belonged there; I remember feeling very satisfied.

I dreamed that Boba Fett was hired to take down Godzilla. Along the way. he picked up a team of fellow mercenaries, including Batgirl, Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze version), Jonah Hex (but the one that was time displaced into a post apocalyptic future), and Bester from Babylon 5. Along the way, they met a dragon that needed some help (can’t recall what, exactly), but they refused and the dragon vowed revenge (but after they left, a bunch of Imperial Stormtroopers entered the cave). I woke up before they ever got to Godzilla. I vaguely recall that somewhere in there was Howl’s Moving Castle, but I can’t recall what it did or why it was there.

I love these stories. Those cloud lyrics are phenomenal and your dream is not unlike one of your stories, G.

Every time I ask my 2 1/2 yr old son what he dreamed about he always says “Soccer balls and basketballs!” (2 of his favorite things). So clearly we’re not getting a real answer, and maybe he doesn’t even know what a dream is. But one night i think I hear him crying, walk in the room and he’s talking in his sleep, “So many soccer balls!” He wakes up and then looks around confused… “Where’d all the balls go???”.

Maybe he was telling the truth the whole time!

Does your daughter remember the tune as well?

No. There was a refrain, though. “I once was a boulder.”

Friends, what a delightful bunch you are. A pleasure to share a blog with you.

E.C.,
did you like the sillabub?

IAW, capitalism is obviously a lie, or else major studios would be beating your door down for that script.

Sean G., many of my stories are just dreams I wrote up. Many of the others are waking dreams, if that makes any sense. I enjoyed your son’s nightmare(?).

@ G,
Super delish. Also the figgy pudding and the sugar-iced cake shaped like a mountain castle (I think I was remembering J.R.R.T.’s ‘Smith of Wootton Major’).

@ IAW,
Dang. I think your dream beats mine all hollow.

Those are basically how most of my dreams go. You should see the last one I shared here at JG, about the Addams Family joining the church and being put in charge of BYU security during the apocalypse.

@ IAW,
I did see that one. Your dreams seem very eventful!

@IAW

One of my favorite bands is called Built to Spill. They have a lyric in one of their songs that goes, “No one wants to hear what you dreamt about, unless you dreamt about them.”

Though I love the song it comes from, I’ve never found that line to be less true than when reading your description of your Addams Family dream. I chortled audibly.

“I enjoyed your son’s nightmare” -G

One the most unintentionally terrifying sentences I’ve read. I think the nightmare was when he woke up and all of the balls were gone.

@FP That lyric is usually true in my experience but definitely not here. Most dreams are a random string of ‘and then’s. Every story needs a beginning, a middle and an end, and most dreams are the dreaded ‘all middle’.

So, my dream from last night:

(for whatever reason, during the entire dream, there was a high school wrestling tournament going on in the background, even though this had no effect or interaction with the rest of the dream)

I was a missionary again, and we were having problems finding a particular address. It seemed to be near some storage units, perhaps even one of the storage units, but we weren’t quite sure. So we went into a restaurant across the street, and found out the address was the bar at the back of the restaurant and the bartender just lived there full time. She wasn’t interested (in fact, had already met with the missionaries a year ago and was pissed we contacted her again; our records said nothing about this).

So, we sat down to have lunch, since it was lunch time, and then all hell (literally, you will see) broke loose. We looked out the window and saw people carrying wooden swords running down the street. We went to the window and saw what can only be described as “neon demons” emerging from sort of portal, and the medieval army (which was apparently a thing in this area) had been summoned to fight them off.

Then, aliens landed on the roof of the restaurant and demanded some free take out, or they would vaporize the restaurant. Before we could take that in, the army showed up because someone in the restaurant was apparently a commie spy and they weren’t going to let anyone leave until they figured out who it was.

My companion looked at me and said “well, if one more crazy thing happens, I may just go home early.” At that point, the news on the TV restaurant announced that it turns out the earth really was hollow, the lost 10 tribes have been living there for several centuries, and now they were invading the surface with atomic weapons.

Of course, that’s when I woke up.

Your’s was not, one devoutly hopes, a prophetic dream. But if so, best of luck to the army in their efforts at the restaurant.

G., I love that dream. There is a lot of hope encapsulated in it, along with the promise of a lot of struggle.

Sean G., that son of yours seems like they will have lots to do with soccer and basketball.

IAW, that dream is really interesting. I count at least five invasions in it, and escalating in intensity. If it happens to be analogous to future happenings, we need to fasten our seatbelts.

My most recent dream was that I was in a beautiful house with a lot extended family and small children and I trying to keep some kids from over-helping a baby to walk.
Then my (now deceased) husband came and lay down next to me, and I was very happy to see him…until I remembered that he was dead, and I told him so. I woke up sad and missing him.
I’ve had a lot of dreams lately of being around large family gatherings with little-to-no social distancing. I take them as pointing me to a happy future of having plenty of family in my life. (Right now I have only two relatives in my state that I know of, one uncle and one cousin).

These are all fascinating in their own way. Y’all have standing permission to post them as desired.

Last night I dreamed that we had a large hutch-style furniture placed in front of our built-in cupboards, and then bookshelves in front of that.

MStephens –

that reminds me of a dream I had about six months after my father died. In the dream, he briefly came back from the dead in order to do his home teaching (which, if you knew my dad, is totally in character; he really would come back from the dead to do home teaching).
