Flash Mob Violence

I know what a mob is. What does the “flash” qualifier mean? The talking head gave me some notion computerized social networking is involved, but details were lacking.

Flash mobs are something that is mostly popular among college age types, it’s planned using facebook/myspace/etc. – it usually involves a bunch of people planning on converging at a specific place at a specific time and engaging in some silly behavior – say a pillow fight, or a chaotic improvised group interpretive dance routine.

It’s meant to be mindless, silly stuff, good for a few giggles and perhaps blow off some steam in a harmless way. Apparently some jr. high and high school aged types in Philly are creating flash mobs that turn violent.
