It’s not that people are stupid and ignorant, in any absolute sense. They’re rationally ignorant. How many individuals are going to have any significant say in any particular policy? So why should they take the time to inform themselves when there are more productive uses for it? We follow these things because we’re hobbyists, not because we have any more say than anyone else.
This is why we have a representative, not a direct, democracy.
