Do you mean that all those social scientists with advanced degrees, and who were constantly touted in the media as being experts, who have been telling us for 40 years that pre-marital sex was okay, even good, lied?
You speak rhetorically, of course. But, no, I don’t think they lied. I think they kidded themselves, which is not quite the same thing.

And yet, here our society (or at least 5 states, and nearly 1/2 the constituency of a few others) has embarked on a strangely similar new paradigm that homosexuality is “okay”, even to be celebrated and socially recognized in the institution of marriage.
Will it take another 40 years before the fruits of that experiment become obvious to the experimenters?
One of the themes that I commented on at MillennialStar.org and MormonMentality.org is that same sex marriage will (do much to) remove the final social taboo against homosexuality, and its likely first effect will be:
that the first cohort to pass through their school years (from kindergarten up to the age when many start sexually experimenting, ie 10th, 11th or 12th grade) in a society where “gay is okay/normal”, will see homosexuality as a viable choice, because there will be no social or societal taboos against it.
Then, it will start to become more obvious that homosexuality is not always an inborn trait.
Of course not all teens will experiment with homosexuality, but those who are adventurous, those who like to push the envelope, and likely some follower-types, and those with “soft coded” sexual orientation who come under the influence of homosexual peers.
As the couple in the above linked article discovered, early (and especially first-time) sexual experiences tend to have a lifelong effect. Pity the 17 year old whose first time sexual experiment is with homosexual sex (after all, if there’s nothing wrong with it, and its available, why not check it out?)
Promiscuity seems to be entrenched in our society. What’s Satan’s next step? Where can he take promiscuity to? What can he add to it to make it wreck (or make unhappy) or even prevent more families?
The sexual revolution of the 1960’s didn’t directly wreck the marriages of those who married pre-revolution (or those who married contemporaneously without having partaken of the revolution). It wrecked many of their children’s marriages.
SSM won’t wreck the marriages of those already married either. But the removal of the social taboo (against homosexuality) will wreck many of your (future) children’s marriages, with each new generation having a higher percentage who either falsely conclude they are homosexual, or choose to engage in homosexual activity.
One of the common retorts used to deny that homosexuality was chosen was “Why would anyone choose to be homosexual in this homophobic society?”
Okay, so take as much homophobia as possible out of society, or at least out of the upcoming generations. Then there won’t be that impediment to choosing a homosexual lifestyle.
Those who claim no harm in SSM are on the same footing as those who claimed there was no harm in premarital promiscuity. They are not taking a long-term view of the generational effect.

Whether they lied or whether they kidded themselves, the bottom line is they were wrong, and a gullible society followed them.
Whether it be promiscuity, global warming, or gay-is-okay-ness, relatively quick and vast course changes of human behavior have been and are being made for the worse, with “leaders” urging trust in ‘experts’ who, more and more, are turning out to have been wrong all along.
Has anyone noticed what this basket is, and where we are headed?
