Christmas and the Paralysis of Indecision

December 24th, 2014 by G.

A young man of my acquaintance contemplates what he should be in the Nativity.  “Jo-fes” or a “Jesus shepherd”?

Jo-fes

He decided on the Jesus shepherd. Both get to wear red cowboy boots, so that was a wash. But “Jo-fes has hair on his face” while the Jesus shepherd “has a big black dog named Spaceship-ha.” (I am not making these up).

Moral of the story: uh, don’t get stressed out over Christmas tasks and decisions.

Speaking as someone who ‘starred’ as Jo-fes in a class nativity play, I would recommend the part. On at the beginning and centre of attention, then you get to sit down for the rest of the show.

I remember in rehearsals being annoyed with the people who kept saying that Jo-fes was NOT Jesus’s father – my feeling was *of course* I/we were Jesus’s father!

Theological correctness ought not to be an obsession with children’s nativity plays.

G., it’s a pleasure to see Timor Mundi turning into a young man, little by little. I really hope to meet your family in person someday. I promise not to wheeze.

Happy Christmas to all at my favourite blog – 06.00h… I am up earliest – as usual, but I hear the first sounds of stirring and murmuring from the family…

A Merry Christmas to you, Bruce.

Merry Christmas to all. I had to send a couple of heathens back to bed at 3 AM with dire threatenings, but now everything’s five by five.
