The Sacrament in Lehi’s Dream
There are two ways the sacrament is present in Lehi’s Dream. The first is the fruit (which is Christ) which is both fleshy and juicy. Blood and flesh of the tree.
The second is the tree and its fruit and the water, at least at its origin, both represent Christ.
The sacrament is probably the principal ritual way that we ‘enjoy to the end.’
P.S. Random insight that I am going to tack on here. If the water and the tree are the same image, basically, then the equivalent of the filthy waters (the corruption of the waters) is the Great and Spacious Building. In other words, the Great and Spacious Building is not just opposed to the Tree, its a parody of it. A lot of people have speculated that the building is a temple image and the fine clothing the people there wear are ceremonial religious clothing, which all makes sense if the Building is a corruption of the Tree. It also points out some interesting parallels and contrasts. The tree is rooted in the earth (so incidentally, is the fountain. Its source is not a stream from rain but a fountain out of the ground). The building is foundationless. I think there might be some connection here to the role of the body and matter in the restored gospel. The tree is natural. The building is manufactured. there is a clear path that leads to the tree. The building has many broad paths, but none of them clearly lead to it.
