Godly Fear Creates Peace
October 07th, 2025 by G.
Elder Bednar made a harge contrast between regular fear and godly fear. He said godly fear creates peace.
I made a virtue chart but I’m not sure its accurate. I think godly fear may not be a refinement of regular fear at all. In other words, I don’t know that regular fear is a distortion of godly fear. It may be something more like awe.
Anyway, here’s the chart. Your thoughts urgently needed.

Godly Fear is closer to respect and obedience, than Fear. But perhaps there is some overlap. If I have a very hot fire in a forge or a furnace, I am extremely careful to handle it correctly. In contrast, if my workshop or house were on fire, I would only be careful to run. Likewise if I am dealing with acid or high voltage. A wonderful servant or a fearful master.
If we have Fear and Godly Fear, perhaps the corresponding virtue would be Agency? And corresponding vice or deficiency would be peril or danger. That doesn’t feel exactly right, but close. Need to think more on it.

Or: passionate desire that is contrary to God’s will
In a word: concupiscience
