27 Minutes after the Closing Prayer
September 07th, 2025 by John Mansfield

A few weeks ago I snapped the above photo about 27 minutes after the closing prayer of my ward’s sacrament service. This is what will usually be seen in the chapel at that time most Sundays. One of the ways in which holding priesthood meeting prior to the sacrament service works out nicely.

I enjoyed having Sacrament Meeting last in past wards. It is so nice to enjoy the spirit of the meeting and chat with friends without having to rush to the next one. It seems like an appropriate end to Sunday worship in church. But I’m not in charge so I can’t change anything.

We accomplish the same thing in our family’s wards (YSA for me and a family ward for my parents) by taking ‘chicken bread’ to share – day-olds from the local bakery that would otherwise be thrown out Saturday night.
When Dad was the bishop, he instituted a ‘sharing table’ where we’d take our extra garden goodies as well as the chicken bread every week where possible. Through the winter, it’s pieces of our giant squashes and a 5-gallon bucket of carrots freshly dug; this time of year it’s zucchini and excess cherry tomatoes and green beans and cucumbers. It amuses Dad to no end to see kids sneaking pieces of bread between meetings.

This is our foyer not the end of the block (we have sacrament meeting first).
Of course in our Ward and I assume in yours the schedule is such that there isn’t another ward using that space at that time
