What’s the Matter with BYU, etc.
A BYU professor tells students, if I’m parsing it correctly, that God is going to smite the nation for the sin of voting for Trump.
Well, politics breaks people. It does. The professor is more to be pitied than anything. And frankly I always have a soft spot in my heart for people with extreme views who are willing to air them. We are too locked down, a little free-wheeling vigor and a few sharp elbows including at BYU is all for the good.
My issue isn’t that the professor is mixing in politics. If BYU mathematics professors, between theorems, are bellowing at each other in the hall about how abortion is ungodly vs. Trump is evil I would be cheered. Civility and courtesy and putting friendship over politics is something that happens on the other side of getting right down to your painfully honest convictions. Just being frozen solves nothing and is a false parody of real civility. We are in an extremely fraught situation politically in this country that presents real conundrums from a gospel perspective and BYU among other places is actually a location where something new could emerge if we allowed ourselves to own the problem.
But that’s not what is happening. Instead, how many professors at BYU are functionally emissaries for the elite culture to their benighted students? Enter to learn, go forth to serve managerial class ideology? If BYU is just any other university but with gospel quotations sprinkled on top, MSNBYU, then away with the foul thing.

Call it an educated guess, I expect the credentialed classes are going to take unreasonable reactions to this election. Every wannabe Gadianton Robber is going to pull out all the stops and persecution will begin.
I will confess to being weary of all the apostates and jack mormons. Utah Mormon isn’t a term of flattery.
If persecution does begin, then the middle ground between Babylon and Zion will be less and less inhabitable.

Those poor professors just can’t help themselves as they’ve been indoctrinated and steeped in the leftist ideologies for decades. The number of those who believe Trump will buy us time before the prophesied destruction of all nations is bigger than the cadre of leftist professors. I’m hoping we use this time wisely to move closer to Zion.

He might be right. But where he’s wrong is the assumption that God wouldn’t have smitten the nation if we’d voted for Kamala.
We’ve crossed the Rubicon as a nation long ago.
There comes a penalty for mass deception and being willing to live a lie like our nation does on a daily basis.
The Germans lived a lie about the cause for their problems for over a decade trusting in a political savior and they paid for it.
We have lived so many lies over the years as a society and the penalties are stacking up. When this tower built on sand crumbles it will be a great fall.
We are so unwilling to lose an election to teach the secret combinations that we won’t accept their candidates so we insist on buying whatever rotten fruit the grocer sells us for fear he might go out of business.
The cost of eating the white witches fruit will come. It always does.
