Fathers’ Day Talk
June 16th, 2024 by G.
I’m speaking in Church today (I volunteered) but I am not going to bother putting the talk here because you are already familiar with it.
The point is to talk about why fathers matter, why its good to become a father, and then connect it to our divine father. Getting to that point mostly involves doing a quick tour of JG highlights–
Unrighteous dominion bad means righteous dominion is good
God’s amusement in our prayers and in his guidance
Throw in some ranting about birthrates and how no precious moment will be lost, and that’s about it.

It didn’t go as planned. I had about 5 minutes and it was o nly a few items, all jumbled together, funny, and also I got pretty emotional. Its easy to do when you are talking about what it means to you to be a father, to be a son, and to have a heavenly father. It came out much better than it sounds. I quoted some of your comments in the God’s Amusement posts.

“There is only one adventurer in the world, as can be seen very clearly in the modern world, the father of a family. Even the most desperate adventurers are nothing compared with him. Everything in the modern world, even and perhaps most of all contempt, is organized against that fool, that imprudent, daring fool – against the unruly, audacious man who is daring enough to have a wife and family”

In a ward far from home, a high councilman talked to a congregation of half-locals, half-visitors. He told a story about the time the computers in his veterinary business were acting up because someone was bypassing the safety filters to view, ah, ‘adult content’. Intending to interrogate the entire clinic until he found the culprit, he brought his son in first to talk.
He started out with and explanation, got worked up, but when he got to the point of it, he told his son, “I just want to know who’s been doing this because –
“- Because whoever is doing this needs help,” said the Spirit, which the man repeated softly. His son started to cry.
What followed, he said, was the beginning of a long but sweet repentance process that brought a son back to both his father and his Father.
Conclusion? Live close to the Spirit, and you’ll be able to bless those who need repentance and those who need blessings.
