Holy Week – Monday – driving the exchangers from the temple.

Last year’s post, which is a meditation on peace and violence.

Lehi’s dream: Our quest to relate Lehi’s dream to the last week of Christ’s mortal life is probably quixotic.  Let’s proceed anyway.  This day is the continued triumph so it could be either (1) seeing the tree after being led by the angel or (2) savoring the fruit after tasting it.

We should not think of the merchants as just innocent businessmen.  They had  monopoly position that they were likely using to overcharge the faithful, and were probably paying bribes or otherwise involved with corruption with the temple officers.  Their use of the temple to exploit others resulting in their own loss and damage is a type of the great and spacious building falling into the pit it dug for the saints.

Personal:  You’ve finally made it.  And now, longstanding problems around you bother you more.  You don’t deserve this (you really don’t).  This isn’t right (it really isn’t).  So you assert yourself a little.  Maybe too much.  But the problem you are attacking is a real problem, and needs to be attacked.
