Palm Sunday — Christ is King
Christ enters Jerusalem as King.
The entire holy week is a proclamation of his rule, including the death.
One little remarked aspect of today is how awesome worship and praise is when the object is truly worthy. Being a follower is great if you have a great leader.
Last’s year’s Palm Sunday, which have what I hope is an interesting insight into how Palm Sunday connects to Christ’s death and entry into the next world.
This year, pursuant to my inspiration for reading the Book of Mormon, I am going to try to connect Holy Week to Lehi’s dream. Pursuant to a specific inspiration, I am going to try to connect it to personal growth and crisis–“liken the scriptures unto us;” in other words, what are your holy weeks? Those are below the fold.
Lehi’s Dream: There are two different ways of reading Lehi’s dream in light of Holy Week. As you recall, Lehi starts his dream wandering alone in a vast and dreary world.
Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem — an angel appears to Lehi to lead him
Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem — after wandering forever in dark wilderness, and continuing to walk and walk even after an angel appears, he finally sees it. Where the angel was leading him. The tree, shining with light.
Personal: you finally did it. You finally arrived. After all your struggle and work, you finally feel on top of the world. Everything is great! This is the day she said yes or the day he asked the question, or the wedding day, your first paycheck, your first “real job” job offer, the day you finally open the doors of your new business, the day your kid graduates, the day you sell your business, the day you got accepted to that school you always wanted, the day you graduate, the day you finished writing the story you had burning in your mind and its darn good, the day the research project is finished and the data wrapped up, the day you finally get pregnant after all that praying.
You know looking back that it was only temporary. The triumph didn’t last. The temptation is to think that the triumph was false. It wasn’t. It was real. Glory is a basic element of the universe.
