The True Meaning of the Word of Wisdom, at Last Revealed!

I once had a bishop who told me of a previous ward where he had also served as bishop. One time the lesson in Sunday school was about the Word of Wisdom, and someone read the verse in section 89 that says “wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse” etc., and Bishop quipped that wheat was therefore the only grain suitable for humans.

At the end of the year, during tithing settlement, one of the more stalwart families in the ward was visiting with him. The mom excitedly reported to him that it had been a struggle, but they had tried their best to avoid all grains except for wheat after hearing what he said during that earlier class. It was a major facepalm moment for him.
