On the Cliff’s Edge Leaping
You have never not been on the cliff’s edge leaping.
Plans make heaven roll with laughter.
There is no control, only the deed and submission to the deed.
You must plan. Plans are a form of worship and a declaration of faith.
But then you must leap. Action and choice are the divine union of the masculine principle and the feminine principle. You must act, but then you must submit to the consequences of your act. The one is not whole without the other. Even further action is submission to the changed choice landscape that the action brought about (but further action is also a figure that the masculine principle is never settled, never proved). Whereas the act of submission, of accepting consequences, is also a deed.
See him there stumbling along the cliff’s edge. The chasm gapes. The edge crumbles. The fragments, falling, strike echoes from far below.
He doesn’t know. His eyes are blindfolded. His ears are stopped. His rigid-soled shoes do not let him feel when his foot edges over the abyss.
The name of his blindfold is planning. His ear plugs are called technology. His shoes are civilization.
Shed them all. Leap.
The only thing is, let it be the right cliff.
