The Many Benefits of Rain

My daughters met me this morning with a chorus of, “Dad, Dad, we wanted to get out of weeding so bad we fasted for rain on Sunday and prayed for it every night. ”
It was raining. We didn’t weed.

Testimonies are forged of such things. Yes, I am sure there will be grandiose miracles in their lives, but even the greatest of them will scarcely be remembered more fondly than getting out of weeding by rain.

I’d been praying and fasting for rain all the time in 2021-2022. We were in a terrible drought. About halfway through 2022, I started ‘hearing’ a chuckle in the back of my brain every time I prayed for rain. A chuckle that sounded like, “Just you wait – it’s going to be awesome.”
It was awesome. 2022-2023’s winter broke all recorded snowpacks for our area – and we’re still getting far more than average rain due to unprecedented confluences of weather patterns. And yet, somehow we have avoided catastrophic flooding in my little valley. Truly, miracles rain down from heaven.
