UFOs and Nephilim

We of the Jr Ganymede have no intention of being accused of simply entertaining conspiracies. Nothing half way about it! We have the Lizardmen from the Hollow Flat Earth over for Sunday Dinner with their wives and lizard children. And Bigfoot.

If you have been carefully following the news, there are some seriously weird things going on, as in significantly weirder than normal. Which is pretty weird these days. On top of government officials discussing evidence for UFOs and massive conspiracies of deep black programs hiding things that terrify and unsettle all who know them. Things that are too terrible for the public to know, (but conveniently, not too much for the powers that be.) Seriously, I am not exaggerating. We have even had a Congressman suggest that perhaps these beings are not evolved on other planets, but stem from out own ancient history. And major congressional hearings to reveal what is known on July 26th.

Am I honestly willing to engage the scriptural aspect of these wild irresponsible lunatic conspiratorial rumors?

That was a rhetorical question, of course. Obviously.

The earliest chapters of Genesis, the Book of Moses, and more obscure things like the Book of Enoch (1st Enoch, 2nd Enoch, 3rd Enoch) and the Book of Giants, all discuss events before the Deluge. In particular, we see Enoch lead the people of God, they live somewhat secluded from rest of the world on Mount Hermon. Some of the people there begin lusting after the women on the outside, and make an oath among themselves (this sounds a lot like Akish with his secret combination) so they can go down in union. They take wives, (or at least women) and begin revealing what they know. Trouble and heavenly condemnation ensues.

There are a number of references in the Bible and the Book of Moses Gen. 6:4; Moses 7:15,  Moses 8:18, Num. 13:33; Deut. 2:10–11, 20; 3:11–13; 9:2; Josh. 15:8; 18:16 including Goliath and his ilk (1 Sam. 17:4–7; 2 Sam. 21:16–22; 1 Chr. 20:6.

But the most detail comes from extra-biblical sources.

From First Enoch (R.H. Charles translation, [1917]), we read,

CHAPTER VI.

1. And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters.
2. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: ‘Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.’
3. And Semjâzâ, who was their leader, said unto them: ‘I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.’
4. And they all answered him and said: ‘Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.’
5. Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it.
6. And they were in all two hundred; who descended ?in the days? of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. 7. And these are the names of their leaders: Sêmîazâz, their leader, Arâkîba, Râmêêl, Kôkabîêl, Tâmîêl, Râmîêl, Dânêl, Êzêqêêl, Barâqîjâl, Asâêl, Armârôs, Batârêl, Anânêl, Zaqîêl, Samsâpêêl, Satarêl, Tûrêl, Jômjâêl, Sariêl. 8. These are their chiefs of tens.

CHAPTER VII.

1. And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants.
2. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells:
3. Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them,
4. the giants turned against them and devoured mankind.
5. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another’s flesh, and drink the blood.
6. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

CHAPTER VIII.

1. And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals ?of the earth? and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures.
2. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways. Semjâzâ taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl, (taught) astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Ezêqêêl the knowledge of the clouds, ?Araqiêl the signs of the earth, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun?, and Sariêl the course of the moon. And as men perished, they cried, and their cry went up to heaven.

Second Enoch says:

“gave birth to giants and great monsters and great enmity.”

Third Enoch also has interesting bits, including discussing how they sinned against birds and beasts.

The Book of Giants exists only in fragments, but involves their sins against beasts (beastiality), creating monsters, and the heavenly condemnation.

The rest of the First Enoch account involved a condemnation of these “angels” revealing too much and causing too much destruction. Enoch preaches to them and they tremble and beg for mercy but are denied.

First, these texts come to us as translations of translations of translations. These are far from originals. Some are just in fragments.

Second, the first term for giants is Nephilim. Nephilim – probably means ‘Fallen Ones”. Probably.

The traditional interpretation sees this as fallen angels – “Sons of God” – getting it on with mortal women. But the Book of Moses identifies these Sons of God with righteous covenant keeping mortals – what we would call church members. Thus, these Fallen Ones, are not so much fallen angels, as apostates. This is actually a surprisingly ancient idea.

These giants are also called the Watchers. We should probably equate or at least relate them with the gibborim – “mighty men”. Partly this is a critique of Mesopotamian hero worship of people like Gilgamesh and Sargon of Akkad. We see this particularly in the tale of Nimrod. Notice, how this boast about mighty men comes right before the Flood.

18 And in those days there were giants on the earth, and they sought Noah to take away his life; but the Lord was with Noah, and the power of the Lord was upon him.

19 And the Lord ordained Noah after his own order, and commanded him that he should go forth and declare his Gospel unto the children of men, even as it was given unto Enoch.

20 And it came to pass that Noah called upon the children of men that they should repent; but they hearkened not unto his words;

21 And also, after that they had heard him, they came up before him, saying: Behold, we are the sons of God; have we not taken unto ourselves the daughters of men? And are we not eating and drinking, and marrying and giving in marriage? And our wives bear unto us children, and the same are mighty men, which are like unto men of old, men of great renown. And they hearkened not unto the words of Noah.

Moses 8:18-21

But this is something above and beyond just strong warriors. Giants like Goliath were tall, but they also had 12 fingers and toes, which is different from most people. <citation needed> Myth and legend (as well, honestly, as hoax) also suggest a second row of teeth, which also fits with the Biblical and extra-Biblical narrative. We might want to think of the giants as less like Paul Bunyan or Jack and the Giant, and more like a mutant genetically enhanced Conan the Barbarian. A barbarian that has no need or interest in God. I do not for a moment think these were actually 300 feet tall.

The bits about monsters is intriguing as well.

Hugh Nibley points out that these giants were using a corrupt version of the temple, to reinforce wickedness. However, what they revealed to the people seems far beyond spiritual teachings. They seem to have been like a ‘dark Prometheus’, revealing far too much temporal truth than the people were ready to handle.

So, why I am writing this? What does all this mean?

I don’t know. I truly don’t.  I am not so much a person who “just wants to believe”, as I am someone who doesn’t want to be BS-ed and lied to. But things feel very different this time. The groundswell of public opinion and congressional attention seems qualitatively different from before. We may actually see some Disclosure of what the Government knows, and I suspect we will. In case we do, and some of these questions and objections come up, I wanted to have something on the record first. The rumors about what these unusual beings in UFOs are is not what you would expect, with suggestions they are DNA based with proteins roughly compatible with earthling biology. But who knows. There is disinformation out there, and sorting it is dicey at best.

Regardless, what the scriptures, and the lesser known writings say are fascinating in and of themselves.
