Big Corporate Fast Update
Week 3 of the Big Corporate Fast — 10 days to go, its not too late to join!
We continue to buy only at a smaller local grocery store. It’s cost us about $30 more than normal, which is not a big deal in the scheme of things.
There was a tool I needed that the locally owned hardware store didn’t carry. I needed it immediately, so ordering was not an option. I ended up getting it at the big box store.
On business travel I used chain gas stations for the most part, because those were what I came to when I needed gas.
I did make a point of eating at non-chain restaurants, though, which resulted in one mediocre food experience and several great ones.
I ordered an auto part through an online aftermarket place.
The surprising part is mostly how easy it is. Barely an inconvenience.

Although I did buy some needed items from Amazon that I could find nowhere else, so far I have spent remarkably little outside of basic groceries at our discount store down the street. Honestly, since we buy most of our food that isn’t grown in the backyard in bulk, it hasn’t been that hard. Mostly because I am saving up for some larger purchases this month, anyway, but still. It’s good to be a little more intentional about what I buy.

– we’ve tried out two smaller grocery stores, one of which is a co-op
– we aren’t watching anything from the big streaming platforms
– my wife is doing a great job staying off twitter! (i am not)
– we’ve gotten ~48 eggs from friends with chickens
