Holy Week Wednesday
The second coming – signs of the times – parables of judgment – the marvelous teaching about the sheep and the goats – inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren , ye have done it unto me
Comment: It is interesting that Jesus talks about visiting people in prison (in the sheep and the goats passage) when he is a day or two away from visiting there himself.
We often take Jesus’ remarkable passage about the sheep and the goats to be gauzy boosterism for charity. It is, but it is more than that. I t is literal.
In mortality, we are all babies. We are all “the least of these.” Anything we do to any person and to ourselves is as if we did it to Christ. Even among us, though, there are some that are less than others. The absolute most helpless are babies, before and after birth, and children. They come to us as strangers, literally naked, literally hungry, and we take them in, clothe them, and feed them.
