Brief Political Comment

Considering what an opinionated bunch we are around here, full of gloom about “the current situation,” we don’t really touch politics much, so I hope this comment of mine doesn’t ruin things. This isn’t a comment on the particulars of current proposed legislation, but more about the conditions surrounding it. Our 50/50 nation has the 50/50 Senate it deserves. That has turned Senators Sinema and Manchin into national figures, who many blame for holding the Biden administration’s spending plans hostage to their pet concerns. What I haven’t read anywhere, and so am writing here to please myself, is: Perhaps the Biden administration could instead put forward an agenda that is so amazingly non-partisan that, instead of having a little trouble corralling on board every last senator of the president’s own party, instead there would be two or three senators in the other party willing to support it.
