Here’s a corollary for families in the church. Why aren’t mothers preparing their children for the temple by having them wear underwear such as so called “granny panties”, camisoles, slips, white t-shirts, etc. If children are conditioned to wearing underwear, then temple garments are not foreign objects to be despised. Also why aren’t young girls dressed in more traditional little girl clothing? Why do they have to be dressed in faux slut attire? The problem is that two fold, that is what is offered for sale in most affordable stores, and few women know how to sew anymore. Lots know how to play sports but that’s not a very useful skill as a wife and mother.
D&C 42:40 talks about plain clothing which I take to mean clothing that makes it obvious that we are covenant people, not of the world. Then it says to let their beauty be the workmanship of our own hands. I think that means not because homemade is inherently better quality, but that when the fashions of the world are inappropriate for covenant women and girls, then we should be making our own to reflect our virtue and purity.
The article referenced was hard to read. I feel such compassion for the little girls and young women who don’t have righteous mothers to guide them. What a heartache.
