Vader Our Friend

November 17th, 2022 by G.

This is a companion post to JM’s announcement.  Comment there.

A small intimate blog community like this one crosses the line from parasocial relationships to real.  We mourn Vader.

the background  to JM’s post.
His last thread

I barely knew Vader when I first started the JG.  I was having a rough time then.  One was that the blog I had cofounded, Times and Seasons, had become a pretty hostile place.  The whole LDS internet–or maybe it would be better to say Mormon internet, the old bloggernacle–had become a pretty hostile place.  Vader contacted me to offer encouragement and ended up joining the blog because his ability to be droll while also really thinking about thinks was the tops.

Unfortunately the JG was created by a man who has heard a distant rumor that such a thing as technical excellence exists, but has no personal knowledge of it.  Thus the blog doesn’t have the ability to search by author.

But if you want to see how well he could write, and how tenderly even while being funny, check out his Angina Monologues.

The last post here before Vader died was

Mortality is a Wave.  Time is a wave of experience that moves through the water of eternity but the water remains.

The wave here is fleeting–mortal–and then it rolls on.

Behind it are great depths of love.  Before it are great depths of love.

The posts after he died were

A Body in Time. You are sad when you leave a place because it is yourself you are leaving behind.

Time amputates. The past is a lost limb.

And a picture of fields of poppies.

None of us knew at the time Vader had died.  Yet these things are not coincidences.

He will be sorely missed.
Particularly his Angina Monologues.

If you wish to see his articles, type Vader in the search bar in the upper right of the screen.

Or here.
Though this also accidentally picks up a few unrelated posts.
