Winning is Easy

I’m reading Saving Faith right now. It’s about how to raise your kids to be strong in the gospel. So far the answer is, its pretty easy. You don’t have to have searing answers to gospel questions. You have to care, and pray and study scriptures in your home, and go to church. Simple as.
It reminds me of this revelation I got in General Conference in 2018.

If only!
I have a theory about children; there are three kinds, first are the children like Joseph who was sold into Egypt, there are faithful and obedient no matter what family they are born into or what happens to them; second, there are children like Laman and Lemuel who are rebellious and disobedient no matter what family they are born into or what happens to them. Lastly, there are the children, like most of us, who could go either way, depending on lots of factors.
It helps for sons to have a strong priesthood honoring father who takes the lead in family prayer, scripture study and FHE. It helps for parents to be united in their living of the gospel and actively teaching it to their children by words and actions. It helps for each child to have a strong active peer group at church, at school, in the neighborhood, etc. It helps to have wonderful, faithful leaders at church to reinforce the teachings at home and for back-up when needed.
There are lots of examples of having all of the those things and still losing children to the world. All of us have our agency to make choices.
I rely on the promise of the prophets that if I’m faithful and keep my covenants that the sealing power and the Atonement of Jesus Christ will draw my children in and save them. (Growing up they didn’t have all those helpful things.)
