At the End of Spring

April 02nd, 2013 by G.

The flower of the pear-tree gathers and turns to fruit;
The swallows’ eggs have hatched into young birds.
When the Seasons’ changes thus confront the mind
What comfort can the Doctrine of Tao give?

Thus Po Chui.

My quotation is a bit of a cheat. The poet goes on to answer the question and his answer is that the Doctrine of Tao gives you lots of comfort for the changing seasons, just not for the loss of friends. But I prefer this selection as it is, where it says that there is no philosophy for the fall of the blossoms.
