I realized that I am not a particularly nuanced thinker. It’s just that my simplistic way of thinking is orthogonal to everyone else’s.

May The Lord preserve us from nuanced thinkers…
In his autobiography, Francis Crick said (and implied) some wise things about theorizing (i.e. attaining greater understanding of the world) – which apply beyond science.
The first difficult thing is knowing what ‘evidence’ to believe – and what (the majority) to ignore. Once you have made this decision, the rest often follows quite easily.
The next is to make a theory that is simple enough to evaluate – which means eliminating nuance, as much as possible.
