Are Christians Christian?
October 27th, 2022 by G.
The Brethren generously say that people of other faiths are Christian. But is this really true? When these people are speaking candidly, they will admit that they actually believe in a different Jesus, not the Jesus of the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Although we should treat everyone with love and respect, we have to admit that these so called “evangelicals” and “Catholics” actually believe in a different gospel than the Christian gospel we believe in. The book of Revelations says not to add to nor take away from the words of the scripture, but they do. Please witness to your friends so they can accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!

Oh, I say! This is one of those dashed tongue in cheek thingies, what what?

I know this is said with mild irony, but goodness is it cathartic.

Ultimately, only Christ decides who is Christian. If he counts you as one of his own, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says.

21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matt. 7:21-23

One of my favorites from Elder Holland, October 2007:
“Indeed no less a source than the stalwart Harper’s Bible Dictionary records that “the formal doctrine of the Trinity as it was defined by the great church councils of the fourth and fifth centuries is not to be found in the [New Testament].”3
So any criticism that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not hold the contemporary Christian view of God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost is not a comment about our commitment to Christ but rather a recognition (accurate, I might add) that our view of the Godhead breaks with post–New Testament Christian history and returns to the doctrine taught by Jesus Himself. Now, a word about that post–New Testament history might be helpful.”

Honestly, one of the most Christian men I know is a Buddhist, and some of the worst people I know I’ve met at church. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but Evenstar is on the right track too – only those who are actively seeking to be Christlike are Christian, whatever religion they may claim to be.
But also there are those of all denominations that may mouth their creeds in church, but when pressed on their beliefs, have more in common with the Restored Church than they might like to admit. This, incidentally, is how my mother came to the Church proper – she believed as we believed, but couldn’t quite articulate it until she heard ‘I Am a Child of God’ sung and learned our beliefs about the Godhead.

It seems natural to me that people would have different beliefs (or no beliefs at all) about a real being that’s really there and known to them all.

The restored Church is the “more excellent way” to approach Christ, and, ultimately, those who press forward to know Christ will find their journey converging with way of the restored Church. But they need to be earnestly seeking to come to Christ in the first place, and they become Christians as soon as they begin that earnest seeking.
