The Symbolism of Christ
October 13th, 2022 by G.
Do you wonder why there are just so many different types and shadows of Christ? Why are there so many things that symbolize him?
Lots of reasons, but one reason is that God loves beauty.
The world is a poem of richly layered symbolism.

I think C.S. Lewis’s explanation in The Great Divorce pertains to your question: that reality (and Christ) are so much more real than we can comprehend in our current state, that we must grow to His level in order to endure His reality.
One way we do that is through understanding His attributes, which are synonymous with His names, His types and shadows, and the symbolism that points to Him. “All things denote that there is a God . . .”
I like your last sentence, and I agree with it. That’s probably why He likes Isaiah’s writings so much – not only because Isaiah was His prophet and told His truth, but also because Isaiah did it beautifully.
Six men of Indostan

It was six men of Indostan to learning much inclined
Who went to see the Elephant (though all of them were blind),
That each by observation might satisfy his mind.
The First approached the Elephant, and happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side, at once began to bawl:
“God bless me! but the Elephant is very like a wall!”
The Second, feeling of the tusk, cried, “Ho! what have we here?”
So very round and smooth and sharp? To me ’tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant is very like a spear!”
The Third approached the animal, and happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands, thus boldly up and spake:
“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant is very like a snake!”
The Fourth reached out his eager hand, and felt about the knee.
“What most this wondrous beast is like is mighty plain.” quoth he: “Tis clear enough the
Elephant is very like a tree.”
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear said: “E’en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most; deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant is very like a fan!”
The Sixth no sooner had begun about the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail that fell within his scope,
“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant is very like a rope!”
And so these men of Indostan disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right and all were in the wrong.

Doctrine and Covenants 132:13-14 comes to mind. “And everything that is in the world, whether it be ordained of men, by thrones, or principalities, or powers, or things of name, whatsoever they may be, that are not by me or by my word, saith the Lord, shall be thrown down, and shall not remain after men are dead, neither in nor after the resurrection, saith the Lord your God. For whatsoever things remain are by me; and whatsoever things are not by me shall be shaken and destroyed.”
If only great things that Christ approves of will remain, it makes sense that those things that He created and will preserve would have aspects in common with Him. Christ doesn’t make junk.
