Signs and Portents for America

October 03rd, 2022 by Patrick Henry

Rod Dreher says

The phone rang. It was my journalist friend, slightly freaking out. “Come over,” she said. I took off.

At her apartment, she led me into her home office, and pointed to something hanging on a wall. It was a small American flag, almost paper-thin, and very old. Judging from the number of stars on its field, I would say from the Revolutionary War era. It was mounted and framed under glass.

And it was torn from top to bottom, right down the middle.

“What am I looking at?” I asked.

She explained that someone had given her that antique flag many years earlier. She had it framed, and it had hung on the wall of every home office she had had since then, wherever she lived. Every day she was home, for years, she had looked at it.

On this day, however, when she returned from Ground Zero, she noticed that it had been torn right down the middle.

Nobody else had been home, and if they had been, they would have had to have torn the paper on the back of the frame to get to the flag. It was untouched.

Both of us were, and are, Christian. The significance of this sign was not lost on us.

Three of the four Gospels record this event upon Jesus’s death on the Cross. This is from Matthew 27:50-51:

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

The curtain of the Temple separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple. Traditionally, Christianity interprets this sign as indicating God’s judgment on the religion of His people, the Jews.

The Tearing of the Veil

I believe that America had a Special Providence.

Is Covid one of the vials mentioned in Revelation? Or a warm-up ?

I wish I had more to say, but the sign is being fulfilled.

Covid, of course, is a mere warm up. A warning and reminder. The prophecies are much more impressive than temporarily overworked hospitals.

We should watch for the time when the missionaries are called home.

Thus Brigham:

All we have yet heard and we have experienced is scarcely a preface to the sermon that is going to be preached. When the testimony of the Elders ceases to be given, and the Lord says to them, “Come home; I will now preach my own sermons to the nations of the earth,” all you now know can scarcely be called a preface to the sermon that will be preached with fire and sword, tempests, earthquakes, hail, rain, thunders and lightnings, and fearful destruction. What matters the destruction of a few railway cars? You will hear of magnificent cities, now idolized by the people, sinking in the earth, entombing the inhabitants. The sea will heave itself beyond its bounds, engulfing mighty cities. Famine will spread over the nations and nation will rise up against nation, kingdom against kingdom and states against states, in our own country and in foreign lands; and they will destroy each other, caring not for the blood and lives of their neighbors, of their families, or for their own lives (DBY, 111–12).

Here’s a sign that “Idiocracy” has started:
https://nypost.com/2022/10/04/nyu-professor-allegedly-fired-after-students-say-class-was-too-hard/

The class was Organic Chemistry, something that future doctors have to take.

Talking to fellow boomers, it seems “brain drain” is getting noticeable.

Maybe half of boomers have retired, and while there are “only slightly not enough” of 50-somethings, in terms of numbers, not enough of those 50-somethings have both skills and experience to fill all the vacant slots. So the replacement of the retiring management/supervisory/leadership class is happening with:
– even younger people
– less skilled people
– less experienced people.

And the chain-reaction goes on down the line. And not just in management, but the mid-level skillled people.

If that means an opening at a good job that I can fill, I’ll take it.

@ Bookslinger — Corp America was doing everything but calling me a taxi, and telegraphed louder and louder each day “time to go, boomer, time to go… the time of the grown ups, of whom you were last, is done.” So I walked away from a three decade career.

The owners want all this. Let them have it in spades, I say.

@Zen – BY isn’t on my list of favorites but when he knocks one out of the park, he breaks the bat too.
